Lizard script

.

Yesterday I saw the lizard

gliding up the wall

in spurts

like the carriage

of an old-fashioned typewriter.

.

This morning

it left a message for me

written in very fine script

on the papery material

of a wasp’s nest.

.

I deciphered it

with the help

of a reptilian genomic dictionary.

.

Bite into the air.

it said,

rip out large chunks of it –

I hope that is the correct translation,

if there is such a thing.

.

It continued:

cool your blood

in the throbbing heart

of a red poppy,

I think it said.

.

Further: Believe in your stomach,

keep it close to the ground.

And remember – be friendly with your biome,

you are only a small part of it.

.

I pondered the message.

Did I understand it?

Do I understand anything?

.

I am standing under the huge bulging sky,

the whitish living lizard belly.
